Transfers of Equity (Changing Names on the Deeds)

There are lots of reasons why you may want to change the legal ownership / status of your property, for instance as a result of marriage or co-habitation, divorce or separation, dissolution of a partnership or even for tax planning purposes. Lawyers call this change of ownership a 'Transfer of Equity'.

Whatever your reasons for requiring a Transfer of Equity, legal advice needs to be sought, particularly where there is an existing mortgage in place or a new mortgage being created (or both). Usually, both the person whose name is staying on the deeds and also the person whose name is being added or removed will need to have separate lawyers acting for them.

We are specialists in this area and have acted in many such transfers. We will make sure that you are provided with easy-to-understand information throughout the process, and that you are regularly updated as to progress throughout the transaction.

As with all of our legal services, we offer – at no extra charge – an appointment in our offices with one of our partners to go through all of the paperwork or, where it's more convenient for you, we can complete the process via post and telephone.

Please feel free to call us on 0113 236 2334 to discuss your needs or email us for a quote. We are happy to give you initial advice to help you understand the implications, the procedure and best course of action, before you decide how to proceed.
